Sell on Instagram Without a Website: Bio Link Setup

You can sell products on Instagram without a website. You need a business account, clear photos with the price written on them, and one place where the buyer gives you their address and pays. That last part is what decides whether you can handle 5 orders a day or 50. When every order has to be copied out of a DM by hand, growth turns into late nights.

Here’s a typical example, not a real shop. A home decor seller in Jaipur posts a reel of block-printed cushion covers at 8 pm. By 10 pm there are 26 DMs. Eight say “price?”, five ask about COD, three send a UPI screenshot and nothing else, and one asks for the blue set “like the one you posted in March”. The courier boy comes at 6 pm tomorrow. Before then, someone has to turn those 26 chats into parcels going to the right homes.

That someone is usually you.

Can you really sell on Instagram without a website?

Yes. Plenty of Indian shops sell only through Instagram and WhatsApp. Instagram is very good at showing your products to people. It doesn’t collect UPI or COD for you, and it doesn’t keep a record of who ordered what and who has paid. Those two jobs have to happen somewhere else: in the chat, on an order form, or on a store page.

Three ways to take orders without a website

MethodHow it worksWorks for (rough guide)Where it breaks
DM and UPI IDBuyer messages, you reply with price and UPI ID, they send a screenshot and addressA handful of orders a dayScreenshots you have to check, delivery details buried in chats, orders copied into a notebook
Order form plus payment linkYou send a Google Form or a typed format for name, delivery details and item, then a payment linkA dozen or so a dayTwo steps for the buyer, forms and payments to match by hand, no stock or product photos
Store linkBuyer opens a product page from your bio or DM, picks the item, enters their address and pays or chooses CODMuch higherA small fee per sale on most platforms, and you have to keep listings up to date

None of these is wrong. Many sellers start with DMs, move to forms, then a link, as volume grows. The mistake is staying on DM and UPI ID through a festive season. The store link route is covered in online store without a website.

How to sell products on Instagram without a website: the setup

Switch to a professional account. Choose business or creator. It gives you a contact button, Instagram insights on which posts bring messages, and quick replies for common answers.

Write a bio that answers the first three questions. What you sell, which city you ship from, and whether cash on delivery is available. Then one link. Not five.

Put the price on the post. A price in the caption or on the image cuts “price?” DMs more than anything else. “DM for price” sounds exclusive, but buyers in other cities often just scroll past.

Use Story highlights as your catalog. Stories vanish in a day; highlights stay. One highlight per category: cushion covers, table linen, new arrivals. Add sizes and fabric in the frames.

Show the product in use. Reels of the cushion on a real sofa do more than a flat photo on a white sheet. They also reach people who don’t follow you yet.

Decide your delivery and payment rules before you post. Which pincodes you ship to, who pays shipping, whether COD is open on every item, and how many days to dispatch. Add your returns rule too. Put them in a highlight called “How to order”.

Taking orders without copying them by hand

The real goal isn’t a website. It’s an order that arrives complete: product, size or colour, quantity, name, phone, full address with pincode, and payment status, all in one place.

With DMs, you build that record yourself, message by message. With forms, the buyer fills most of it, but payment still lands somewhere else. With a store link, the buyer fills it and pays in one go, and you get an order you can pack.

Whichever you choose, run a daily routine:

  1. Cut-off time. Orders confirmed by 2 pm ship today. Say it in your highlight.
  2. One list. Every order goes into it, whether that’s a notebook, a sheet or an order dashboard. Columns: order number, date, item, buyer, phone, pincode, paid or COD, packed, shipped, tracking number.
  3. Payment check first. For UPI orders, check the credit in your own bank app, not the screenshot. Our guide on how to identify a fake UPI payment explains why.
  4. One packing slot. After lunch, box up everything from the list in one go. Tick it off.
  5. Send a confirmation, then the tracking number. A short order confirmation, and later a message with the tracking number, saves you ten “where is my order?” chats.

Keep chatting with buyers. That personal reply is why people buy from a small shop on Instagram. Just stop using the chat as your order book.

Instagram order management: one list from DM to delivery

Instagram order management means following every order from the first DM to the day it reaches the buyer, in one place you trust. Instagram is where the order starts. It shouldn’t be where the order lives. Boutiques doing drops should read boutique inventory management.

Give each order a status and move it along. Five are enough for most small shops:

  • New: the buyer has picked an item and you’ve got their name, phone and full address with pincode.
  • Paid or COD: for UPI, you’ve seen the credit in your own bank app. For COD, you’ve confirmed by call or message.
  • Packed: the cushion cover set is boxed and labelled with the order number.
  • Shipped: the courier has it and you’ve sent the buyer the tracking number.
  • Delivered or returned: close it, or note why it came back.

Look at the list twice a day, for example at 10 am and again before a 2 pm packing slot. Anything stuck in New for 24 hours gets one follow-up message. Anything Paid but not Packed by your cut-off is the order most likely to turn into an angry DM, so do those first.

Write the order number, say #0412, in your chat with the buyer. When they ask “where is my order?”, you search for 0412 in the list. Not three weeks of messages. If two people help you, agree that only one person changes a status, or note who did it.

Saved replies help with the questions you answer 20 times a day, for example price, delivery in 4 to 6 days, COD on orders under ₹1,500. You still send each one yourself, and you still check each order against the list.

If you use an Indi Andaz store link, orders from the link arrive in one list in the Seller Portal and the Android Partner app, with the address and payment status already filled in. You still reply to DMs yourself and move each order through packing and shipping.

What changes at 30 orders a day

By the time you’re getting 30 orders a day, three things tend to go wrong with DM and UPI ID selling:

  • Wrong item shipped. The blue set from March versus the blue set from last week.
  • Paid but not shipped. The screenshot was in the chat, but the order never made it to the notebook.
  • Two people selling the last piece. You sold it in the shop while your sister promised it on Instagram.

For festive weeks, see these Diwali sale ideas for online orders.

If you also run a counter, that third one gets worse in Diwali week. Keep a few pieces aside for Instagram orders, and every evening check what sold at the counter that’s also on Instagram.

Where Indi Andaz fits

Indi Andaz gives your shop a branded online store with a link like indiandaz.com/sellers/yourshopname that you can put in your bio and send in DMs. You don’t need a website or a developer, and you can connect your own domain later if you want one.

  • Buyers pay by UPI or card, or choose cash on delivery. UPI and card payments are confirmed at checkout, so there’s no screenshot to judge.
  • Orders arrive in one list in the Seller Portal and the Android Partner app, with the address and payment status.
  • Delivery goes through Delhivery, charged separately.
  • If you have a shop, the Counter app does GST billing at the counter. Counter stock and online stock are kept separate today.

To be clear about what it doesn’t do: Indi Andaz doesn’t read or answer your DMs, and comments don’t turn into orders by themselves. You still reply to buyers yourself. The store link makes sure the order is recorded properly.

Pricing: No monthly fee, 5% only on delivered online orders, payment processing included. GST applies on the fee.

FAQ

Can I sell on Instagram without a website in India?

Yes. You need a business account, prices on your posts, and a way to collect the address and payment: DMs, an order form, or a store link.

How do I accept payment on Instagram without a website?

Share a UPI ID, a payment link, or a store link with checkout. With a UPI ID, always confirm the credit in your own bank app before you ship.

How do I keep track of Instagram orders?

Keep one order list with order number, item, buyer, phone, pincode, payment status, packed or not, and tracking number. Don’t use the chat itself as the record.

What is Instagram order management?

It’s how you track each Instagram order from DM to delivery: one list, one order number per buyer, and a status for new, paid or COD, packed, shipped and delivered.

Can I offer cash on delivery on orders from Instagram?

Yes, through a courier that collects cash or a store checkout that offers COD. Many sellers limit it on costly items and confirm big ones with a quick call.

Will a store link reply to Instagram DMs for me?

No. A store link takes the order and payment. You still answer questions in DMs yourself.

Examples in this post are typical shops, not real ones.
