Jewellery Billing Software: Gold vs Artificial

By Indi Andaz

Billing software for a jewellery shop depends on the metal. A gold bill needs weight, purity, making charges and the HUID number, and general retail billing is not built for that. This guide doesn’t cover gold billing. An artificial, imitation or silver jewellery shop with a fixed price on each tag needs ordinary retail billing: barcode, GST invoice, stock count, and cash, UPI and card. Decide which shop you run first.

Example, not a real shop: a Bhubaneswar artificial jewellery stall sells kundan sets at a few hundred rupees each and gets “still available?” messages on Instagram all through wedding season.

Which kind of jewellery shop are you?

Start here. Your answer decides the software.

  • Artificial, imitation and fashion jewellery. Kundan and polki-look sets, oxidised pieces, earrings, bangles, hair accessories. Each one has a fixed price on the tag.
  • Silver jewellery sold at a tagged price. Payal, toe rings, 925 earrings and chains, priced per item.
  • Gold jewellery, and silver sold by weight. The price is worked out on the bill from the day’s rate, the weight and the making charges.

The first two work like any retail shop. The third’s different: you’ll need specialist software.

What does a gold jewellery bill need that general billing software doesn’t handle?

A gold bill is a calculation, not a price tag. It usually shows:

  • gross weight, stone weight and net weight
  • purity, such as 22K (916) or 18K (750)
  • the day’s gold rate
  • making charges, per gram or as a percentage, and any wastage
  • stone or bead charges
  • the HUID of each hallmarked piece
  • any old gold taken in exchange
  • GST on the invoice, shown as CGST and SGST, or IGST for another state

On GST, the gems and jewellery FAQ from the GST authorities says that when jewellery is sold to a customer, GST is 3% on the total value, making charges included, whether or not the making charges are shown separately. Your CA can confirm how your bills should show it.

Hallmarking with a HUID applies to gold jewellery in the districts BIS has notified, so check the latest BIS notice for yours. For silver, hallmarking is voluntary for now, but since 1 September 2025 any silver piece that’s hallmarked must carry an HUID, according to the government’s press release.

What general retail billing software does: it bills an item at the price you set, scans barcodes, adds GST and records the payment. What it doesn’t do: work out the price from the day’s rate, weight and making charges, or keep HUID records against each item. The Indi Andaz Counter app is general retail billing software, so it isn’t built for gold billing. If weighed gold is most of your business, you’re better off with specialist jewellery software.

Billing software for jewellery shop owners: what to look for

If you run an artificial, silver or fashion jewellery shop, your list is closer to a garment shop’s:

  1. Barcode tags on small items. A tag on each earring card, bangle box or necklace pouch, so you scan instead of searching.
  2. Items set up the way you sell them. A necklace set with earrings, bangles by the pair or by the box. Create each item as the unit you actually sell, so you don’t end up billing half a pair.
  3. Proper GST bills. Imitation jewellery falls under HSN 7117, and silver and gold jewellery under 7113. Get your CA to confirm the HSN code and GST for each item before you set it up; it’s quicker than fixing a month of bills.
  4. Every way customers pay. Cash, UPI, card, udhar for regulars, and split payments.
  5. Sales reports and accounting exports your CA can use at month end.
  6. A store link for customers who order after seeing photos, with checkout by UPI, card or COD, and one list of orders with addresses.

Notebook, GST billing software, specialist jewellery billing software, or billing plus an online store?

OptionGood atWhere it falls short
Notebook or ExcelNothing to pay, familiarSlow GST bills, no barcode, hard to track hundreds of small items
Standalone GST billing softwareFast bills, barcode, reportsA yearly fee; online orders usually stay in chats
Specialist jewellery softwareGold rate, weight, making charges, HUID, old gold exchangeMore than an artificial jewellery shop needs
Billing plus an online storeCounter bills and online orders in one accountNot built for weight-based gold billing

Notebook or Excel is fine for a few bills a day. With hundreds of small pieces and a wedding-season queue, it won’t hold. If customers pay by UPI for online orders, learn how to identify a fake UPI payment first.

Standalone GST billing software handles the counter well. As an example, myBillBook’s pricing page lists Plus at ₹3,490 a year, billed annually (shown as ₹291 a month), checked on 6 Oct 2026. The page doesn’t say whether GST is extra, so confirm before you pay.

Specialist jewellery billing is built around the gold bill. If you’re a gold jeweller, it’s usually the right answer, since it works out the price from the metal rate and weight. Compare a few, and ask each vendor for its current price in writing.

Billing plus an online store suits a fashion jewellery shop that sells on photos. Jewellery is small, light and sells well from pictures, so a store link often earns its keep.

Our main guide on billing software with an online store compares costs across these setups.

Where does Indi Andaz fit for a jewellery shop?

Indi Andaz is for artificial, silver and fashion jewellery shops that bill at the counter and also want to sell online. Heading into Dhanteras and Diwali, these Diwali sale ideas for online orders help you set a last order date.

  • At the counter: the Counter app for GST billing on an Android mobile or tablet, with barcode scanning and cash, UPI, card, udhar and split payments.
  • Online: a branded online store with a link like indiandaz.com/sellers/yourshopname. Customers pay by UPI, card or COD, and UPI and card payments are confirmed at checkout, so there’s no screenshot to check.
  • Orders and delivery: online orders arrive in one list in the Seller Portal and the Android Partner app. Delivery runs through Delhivery, charged separately.
  • Stock, stated plainly: counter stock and online stock are kept separate today. A set sold at the counter doesn’t come off your online store by itself.

Pricing: no monthly fee, 5% only on delivered online orders, payment processing included. GST applies on the fee. On a ₹1,200 oxidised set, that’s ₹60. Delhivery shipping is charged separately.

If you also sell sarees or suits, our post on billing software for a saree shop covers the textile side. For a simple start, a dukan ka stock register shows which pieces are on the shelf.

What are the honest limits?

  • Not for weight-based gold billing. No gold rates, making charge or HUID features. Gold jewellers who need those should use specialist software.
  • Stock is separate on each side. For one-off pieces, keep an eye on both lists, or keep a separate online stock.
  • Android at the counter. Choose your device with that in mind.
  • 5% only on delivered online orders. A refused COD parcel still costs you shipping.
