A saree shop bills differently from a garment shop. A saree is often a single piece, so each one gets its own tag or design code, and the bill has to show that code, not just “saree”. Fall, pico and blouse stitching are extra lines. Look for billing that does design-wise items, GST lines and udhar, and a store link for buyers who pick from WhatsApp photos.
Example, not a real shop: in Puja week a Shantipur shop bills a jamdani with fall and pico for Rs 4,850 (example numbers) while a Bengaluru buyer asks on WhatsApp how to pay for two sarees from photos.

Why is billing in a saree shop different from other clothes shops?
A garment shop sells the same shirt in five sizes. You sell three hundred designs, and many are one of a kind.
- Many designs, few pieces of each. Every design needs its own item code and tag. “Silk saree, ₹4,500” isn’t enough, because you’ve got twelve of those and each one’s different.
- Fabric and weave details matter. A good item name carries the fabric, the weave and the colour, such as “Banarasi katan silk, meenakari, maroon” or “Bengal tant cotton, red border”. When a customer comes back to exchange, you’ll find the exact piece on the old bill.
- The festive and wedding rush. Durga Puja, Diwali and the wedding season bring a queue. Each bill’s got to be quick.
- Customers in other cities. Old customers who moved away see WhatsApp photos, pay by UPI screenshot, and the address sits somewhere up the chat.
- Add-ons. Blouse pieces, fall and pico, and blouse stitching all need to show on the bill. Put stitching and fall-pico on their own lines, and ask your CA which GST rate applies to that work, as it can differ from the saree itself.
Billing software for saree shop owners: what to look for
Before you compare brands, write down what your counter needs every day. Here’s a starting list:
- Barcode tags per design. Scan the tag and the right saree lands on the bill, with no hunting through “red 1, red 2”.
- Quick item entry. New stock arrives in bundles from weavers. Adding thirty designs shouldn’t take more than one evening, even for new staff.
- A proper GST invoice. HSN codes, the right price and rate per item, and separate lines for add-ons.
- Every way your customers pay. Cash, UPI, card, udhar (credit) for trusted regulars, and split payments, as when a bride’s family pays part in cash and part by UPI.
- Sales reports your CA can use at month end.
- A way to sell to out-of-town customers that doesn’t depend on screenshots: a store link, checkout with UPI, card and COD, and one list of orders with addresses.
Point 6 is where you’ll probably end up paying for a second tool. Our main guide on billing software with an online store looks at that problem for all kinds of shops.

Notebook, GST billing app, or billing plus an online store?
| Option | Good at | Where it struggles in a saree shop |
|---|---|---|
| Notebook or Excel | Nothing to pay, and everyone already knows it | Slow GST bills, no barcode, and one-piece designs are hard to track |
| Standalone GST billing app | Fast bills, barcode, reports | A yearly fee, and online orders usually still come through chats |
| Billing plus an online store | Counter bills and online orders in one account | Depends on the provider: check fees, stock handling and payouts |
Notebook or Excel works for a few bills a day. In Puja week it falls apart. Tax by hand is slow, and you can’t tell which one-piece designs have sold without checking the almirah. For tagging and counting sarees, read saree inventory management.
A standalone GST billing app fixes saree shop billing at the counter, and many shops are happy with one. As an example, myBillBook’s pricing page lists Plus at ₹3,490 a year, billed annually (shown as ₹291 a month), checked on 6 Oct 2026. The page doesn’t say whether GST is extra, so confirm that at checkout. The same page lists an online store option, so check what it covers for payments and delivery.
Billing plus an online store puts both in one account. Ask how the provider charges (a monthly fee or a cut of each sale), whether payment is confirmed at checkout, how shipping works, and how stock is handled.
How do WhatsApp photo orders fit with counter billing?
You probably don’t need a big website. You need a better way to close the orders you already get on WhatsApp. You still send photos to a customer in Pune, but instead of your UPI ID, you send the link to that saree. She pays by UPI or card at checkout and it’s confirmed there, or she picks COD. The order lands in your order list with her address, and you pack it. To keep chat orders in one list, see WhatsApp order management for a small shop.
The one-piece design needs care. If the only piece of a Kanjivaram is listed online and a walk-in customer buys it, you’ve got to take it off the store yourself. Some owners keep a separate shelf for online inventory, or list only designs they hold two or more pieces of.
Where does Indi Andaz fit for a saree shop?
Indi Andaz gives you counter billing and an online store in one account. If you also stitch blouses and falls to order, boutique inventory management covers keeping those jobs apart.
- At the counter: the Counter app for GST billing on Android, with barcode scanning and every way of paying, from UPI to udhar and split bills.
- Online: a branded online store with a link like indiandaz.com/sellers/yourshopname. Customers pay by UPI, card or COD, and UPI and card payments are confirmed at checkout, so there’s no screenshot to check.
- Orders: online orders arrive in one list in the Seller Portal on the web and the Partner app on Android. Delivery runs through Delhivery, and shipping is charged separately.
- Stock, stated plainly: counter stock and online stock are kept separate today. A saree billed at the counter doesn’t come off your online store by itself.
Pricing: no monthly fee, 5% only on delivered online orders, payment processing included. GST applies on the fee. On a ₹5,000 saree that’s ₹250, and Delhivery shipping is charged separately.
Many saree shops also stock matching artificial jewellery. If that’s you, our post on billing software for a jewellery shop that sells online too covers what to watch for there.
What are the honest limits?
- Stock is separate on each side. With one-piece designs, you must keep an eye on both lists yourself.
- The Counter app runs on Android. Pick your counter mobile or tablet with that in mind.
- Check with your CA first. If your CA depends on accounting features in your current software, ask before you switch.
- 5% only on delivered online orders. It’s a cut of each delivered order, not zero, and a refused COD parcel still costs you shipping.

FAQ
Do I need a separate barcode for every saree?
Yes, give each design its own code, even if you hold one piece. It saves searching at the counter and helps you find the exact saree on an old bill.
Should fall, pico and blouse stitching go on the same bill as the saree?
Put them on the same bill, as separate lines, so the customer sees what she paid for. Ask your CA which GST rate applies to stitching work, because it can differ from the rate on the saree.
Will a saree sold at the counter disappear from my online store?
Not in Indi Andaz. Counter stock and online stock are kept separate today, so mark it sold online yourself, or keep a separate stock for online orders.
What is the best billing software for saree shop counters?
The one that handles one-piece designs with barcode tags, takes udhar and split payments, and gives you a store link for out-of-town customers. Indi Andaz does that with no monthly fee, 5% only on delivered online orders, payment processing included. GST applies on the fee, and Delhivery shipping is charged separately.
